Open CTG File

Files with CTG extension refer to catalogs used by Canon digital cameras. These CTG files are usually stored in the CANONMSC folder of your Canon digital camera, so when you connect it to your computer through a USB connection, you can access them.

The CTG file extension works as a bookmark for your computer, giving you information about the images contained in folders on the Canon camera's memory card. This information allows the memory card to index the photographs you have taken.

In other words, the CTG files organize the photographs based on the date they were taken. These files are what allows you to navigate through the images you have previously taken when looking at them on your camera. Typical CTG files are not online.

Important considerations

CTG files should not be deleted, nor should you try to open a CTG file. That is, CTG files are not designed to be opened or operated outside the context of the camera, therefore there is no suitable application to work directly with them.

These files are necessary for the memory card in your camera to function properly. When you delete the photos from your memory card, the CTG file will also be deleted automatically.
